Our basic philosophy toward web design is that it provides informative content with an attractive appearance without sacrificing functionality. Striking a perfect balance between these elements is vital. At a certain point, "content" crosses over and becomes "clutter", making searches for the desired material a confusing and arduous task. While this formula spelled a huge success for "Where's Waldo", for the owner of a website it only renders frustration.
Further, the design should
suit the venue. For instance, applying similar motifs
on sites as disparate as IBM and Fangoria
would hardly play out.
It is not enough to know your audience; your audience must also be able
to recognize you.
